WHY USE A COMPANY TO HIRE A BODYGUARD?
WHY HIRE A BODYGUARD COMPANY, WHEN ITS CHEAPER TO HIRE THE BODYGUARD
The same reason you use a Construction firm instead of using one man and a wheelbarrow! you know your house isn’t going to fall down in 6 months time! This isn’t to say all freelance bodyguards are bad, or all protection companies are good… It is simply to say you get what you pay for. Only when you’ve done your research will you be able to reduce the risk of of hiring someone who is more threat than he is security!
LETS LOOK AT THE FACTS AND TRUTHS! WHAT IS ACTUALLY HAPPENING ON A DAILY BASIS WITHIN THE CLOSE PROTECTION (BODYGUARD) INDUSTRY AND YOU CAN DRAW YOUR OWN CONCLUSION… THIS POST IS BASED ON MANY A TRUE STORY!
WHAT IS A BODYGUARD, CLOSE PROTECTION OFFICER, EXECUTIVE PROTECTION OFFICER ?
Answer-In the eyes of the Security Industry Association in charge of licensing… a man or woman that has passed approximately 30 (150hours) days of SIA (£1000) training (close protection level 3), self funded or if on benefits-given free by the government, who has then applied for a SIA Close Protection License (£220). He or she must have a clean UK criminal record.. which it will be after 5-7 years… or for past ex convicts then coming to the UK. So in short a bodyguard is 150 hours, £1220 and few years of non criminal activity.
WHAT IS EXPECTED OF A BODYGUARD, CLOSE PROTECTION OFFICER, EXECUTIVE PROTECTION OFFICER ?
Answer-Usually clients will hire a bodyguard who is ex military with 3 years industry experience… ok… lets look at that… this would then be open to for example: a Lithuanian shop keeper who served 2 years compulsory military service who was discharged for committing fraud and theft… several years have passed he has now come to the UK gained a Close Protection license through government funding and spent 3 years working as a bouncer (sidelining in providing cocaine and female escorts to his punters) in a london club as well as on and off hotel security/event security.
HIRING A BODYGUARD-JOB POST, INTERVIEW, PLACEMENT
So following on from the last paragraph, you have brought in the candidate who applied for the low/average paying position (as all the well know professionals are busy working for well known, top paying companies). You check out his CV which he describes himself as ex special forces, 10 years experience protecting celebrities and a list of references (that his friends with barely legal companies have provided him as a favour)… but you don’t question it as he’s a mountain of a guy who looks great in his italian suit and sunglasses…. “he’s a bodyguard right, he must be special forces or something???”
HIRING A BODYGUARD-PROTECTING YOUR CLIENTS
So you have hired the “bodyguard” because he looks the part… “so therefor he must be good”… he knows London pretty well from all his past experience (walking 3 miles a day to work his door). 6 months have gone by, there hasn’t been any problems as the client has been away in LA so he’s been on camera duty… which he watches with his headphones in and his eyes ‘resting’. Now the time has come for him to spring into action, the client is due to return, you need the “bodyguard” to do a bank run on behalf of the client… so off he goes in the clients new range rover vogue to pick up the £80,000… one hour passes by, two hours, three days… the phone rings… This is the london Met, your vehicle has been left at dover ferry point with the keys on the passenger seat…
